About The Devon School of English
Here at The Devon School of English we have created a relaxed and friendly environment where learning English is a real pleasure and where everyone is treated as a special guest. We started the school in 1971 and now our sons, all academics and linguists, are the directors of the school. They work hard to maintain the very highest standards in student education, activity programmes, accommodation and welfare.
As an independent, family-run school, we can react quickly to the latest developments in teaching and preserve that “personal touch” for which we are well-known. Understanding and satisfying an individual student’s needs and objectives lie at the heart of our approach to the learning experience, encouraging students to take responsibility for their own progress.
The Devon School of English has been running its unique Residential Centre since 2009, first at Queen's College, Tautnon and now at Sherbonre Girls. We chose Sherborne because we share the same ideas about education. That is, a school should be a place where everyone counts; should have a relaxed, friendly atmosphere with a real sense of purpose and, above all, should have a passion for learning.
Set in a peaceful part of the town, it is the ideal location for a residential summer school. Not only is the school in the heart of some of the most beautiful countryside in the West Country but also only minutes away from the attractive town centre of Sherborne in heart of the beautiful county of Dorset. What’s more, it is only two hours away from London.
The Devon School of English
The school organizes an activity programme which is compulsory for every teenager course. The trips and sports activities are a great way for you to meet other students and practise your English. All of the trips are accompanied by fun guides who can help you get the most out of your visit.
The activity programme changes each week. You can go on trips to local places of interest such as the zoo, or on the steam train to Dartmouth, or on a boat trip around the bay. Then there are excursions to the historic cities of Exeter or Plymouth; the wild countryside of Dartmoor and also fun sports activities.
