Introduction
In this workshop, we will look at the role of emerging language within the classroom. We will look at what emerging language is, how to listen for it in the classroom and how to share it with students via board work.
Emerging language is very briefly dealt with on initial teacher training courses, but it is an area which can really make a difference to our students’ progress.
Being able to react to our students’ needs is an essential teaching skill and emerging language gives them the vocabulary and structures they really need both inside and outside the classroom in their real lives. Let’s reframe how we look at emerging language, rather than simply ‘dealing’ with it, let’s embrace it!
Presented by Holly Morgan – Teacher Trainer & Academic Coordinator @English Path.

Preparing for the Workshop
Our Masterclass workshops are typically delivered in 90 mins.
At Gallery Teachers, we endorse the philosophy of building on your previous knowledge and experience as opposed to just imparting knowledge on you.
Therefore, in order to prepare you for the webinar and help you activate what you already know about the topic, we will suggest two to four reflective questions for you to consider before you join the event.
You will also be given the opportunity to post your reflections, along with any questions you may already have at the pre-watching stage, to the discussion forum.
The reflective questions, as well as ideas and shared experiences posted to the forum by attendees, will be used in the real-time Q&A session in order to generate an engaging and meaningful discussion, involving the presenter and teachers from around the world.
After the event, the forum discussion will take on a life of its own and teachers will be encouraged to continue posting their experiences, reflections and questions related to the topic of the webinar. So, if you feel strongly about the topic, we will make it possible for you to take the discussion beyond the scheduled workshop and continue sharing your ideas with like-minded teachers and teacher trainers from other countries

Getting the Attention of Students in your class
The session was very interactive and informative,
I gained knowledge on how to ensure that my learners listen and apply the instructions given during my instructional periods. I also learnt the essence of grouping the class into different groups before giving instructions, telling the class stories, showing of educational videos and telling age appropriate related jokes to stimulate the class and make it lively.

Getting the attention of the students in the class
This session was really wonderful.
Learnt ways of getting the students attention in class ..also ways of set induction.
These includes
1. Telling stories.
2. Review of previous lesson by telling them of topic that was not done in previous lesson to observe there sense of review, concentration and articulation…. And ofcorse they will react.
3. Grouping the class into different genders and asking them to tell the class stories, this has proven to stimulate the class and make it lively.
4. Telling jokes.
This has been proven effective and I will be implementing them in my class by next week.
