Introduction

Using images in teaching is nothing new: teachers employ images in a plethora of ways to aid teaching for retentive, didactic, illustrative purposes…etc.

However, in this century, as the information students receive increasingly comes through a complex combination of text and image, it is essential that students learn to process not only words but also pictures.

They need to become visually literate! Therefore, this workshop will explore what Visual Literacy is, its importance in today’s world and how to actively develop this type of literacy in students.
