What kind of occasion beats a good wedding as an opportunity to discuss your cousin Bab’s new rock star boyfriend? And to talk about uncle Barry and his new hobby that nobody can understand?

People can be such gossips, right? But we also love talking about the wedding itself.

And not just the wedding. There’s so much that goes into these things, from the engagement to the hen and stag parties to the ceremony to the reception and to the years of marriage that follow it.

Talking about weddings brings up a lot of specific vocabulary. Some of it can be especially confusing for English learners (I’m thinking specifically about the whole “marry” / “married” / “get married” thing.
