Safeguarding Basic Awareness Course
Find out about what duty of care adults have when working with students in the UK and what to do if a safeguarding situation should arise.
Everyone working with children in the UK needs to complete basic awareness training in safeguarding. Learn about or refresh your knowledge of safeguarding with this updated course prepared for 2022.
Why is This Course Important
In the United Kingdom and many other countries, schools with students under the age of 18 have a legal ‘duty of care’ to safeguard those students. Therefore it is compulsory for everyone working with the organisation to understand safeguarding and their ‘duty of care’ responsibilities. The training starts here with this specially designed course.
In this course, you will be introduced to:
- Safeguarding
- Child Protection
- Recognising and Responding to Abuse
- The Government’s ‘Prevent’ Strategy
” … safeguarding children is one of the most valuable things we do for international students in the UK; it is very important that we get it right… “

Sad but insightful
This was clear and concise, if sometimes a bit disturbing and disheartening due to the subject matter. Most of what is said here is fairly logical, but there were a couple of bits (especially in how to respond to a child who is disclosing abuse to you) that I would probably not have intuited, and it was very helpful to hear about them.
The First Time I’ve Been Explicitly Trained in Such Matters
It’s very useful to have the intentions supporting Tutors’ inclusion in Safeguarding, spelled out in this way. I don’t anticipate hearing ‘disclosures’ from any student group members (which has been naive, I suspect), and it’s a reminder of the position of responsibility I’m in. There was only one question featured here, where the option of picking more than one answer to a question appeared blocked, yet the answer was indeed, all of those possible answers suggested.
