Been wrestling with my electronic distance measuring setup all week, and it’s driving me up the wall. I’m doing land survey work for a small contractor, and my EDM keeps throwing setup errors even though I swear I’m following the same steps I’ve done for years. Tripod is level, prism is clean, batteries are fresh, but the thing still refuses to behave. I’m starting to wonder if I’m missing something stupid or if the unit is just aging out on me. Before I drag it to a repair shop, I’d love to hear what others would check or try.

I’d start by checking the prism alignment and making sure the tripod is stable. I’ve also had bad readings from low battery power or heat shimmer, so recheck those conditions too.

I’ve used a couple of Leica total stations on mixed construction jobs, and having a reliable place for gear made a big difference. I picked up some of mine through https://califfsurveying.com/leica-surveying-equipment and liked being able to compare models without the usual runaround. If you’re weighing options between something advanced like the MS60 and a budget pick, browsing there helped me sort out what was worth it for my workload.
