We’re planning to build a custom web application and are weighing whether to hire an in-house developer, work with a freelancer, or bring on a dedicated PHP development company. Cost is obviously a factor, but we’re more concerned about long-term reliability, security practices since we’ll be handling sensitive customer data, and whether the team can scale the app as our needs grow. We’re also unsure how to properly vet a company beyond their portfolio, things like their development process, communication style, and how they handle testing and support after launch.
If someone hired a PHP development company before, I’d love to hear how you evaluated your options, what questions you asked before committing, and any red flags you’d tell others to watch out for.
