How Important Is Topical Relevance for Guest Post Backlinks?

[Alex]

Would you rather have a backlink from a very strong general website or a smaller site that’s closely related to your niche? I’m curious how much weight people give relevance compared with traffic and authority when choosing guest post opportunities.

Jumping in on this older post because I’ve been thinking about this a lot. Relevance usually wins for me — a link from a niche site brings better traffic and feels more natural to search engines. A strong general site might pass more authority, but if the context is off, it can look spammy. What do others prioritize when choosing?

I always prioritize relevance over raw authority. A link from a niche site drives targeted traffic and signals topical expertise to Google. I’ve been using this guest posting service for my own campaigns, and it handles the relevance matching and link quality really well, saving me time.
