GTEFLKeymasterReflect on what has been covered and agree or disagree with the information presented in this module.
Look back through the material and/or your notes and summarise and reflect further on
- how you found the Module and the way you have felt;
- the skills you have seen and practised in this Module.
You do not need to write an essay, just some thoughts on what you have learned. You can use bullet points.
Remember to read at least two other postings and choose one of these to post a response.

InactiveThis module gives us the clear idea how a speaking skills lesson should be structured. The examples of speaking activities and hands-on ideas for correcting fluency speaking activities are great. They can be adapted and used with different kinds of students.

GuestThe module is quite interesting and challenging at the same time. I learnt the two approaches to use in teaching a speaking skills lesson: The course based approach and the task based approach.
I also got to understand the problems that can arise in course of teaching a speaking skills lesson and how to prevent such problems.- 2nd September 2021 at 6:20 pm #342783

GuestI agree – it is useful to be able to anticipate any problems and have the solutions ready. I like the fact that there are two different approaches to teaching speaking skills.

GuestThis module was a bit challenging for me but the trainer’s summary helps me a lot; I know now that there are two types of designing speaking lessons(from accuracy to fluency and the TBL). All demonstration lessons was based on intermediate classes but I think the most appropriate speaking lesson for beginners is from accuracy to fluency because they have less vocabulary than intermediate ones, so they need to have the accurate words to be able to speak fluently during freer practice.

GuestThis module communicates how a speaking skill should be presented when teaching. Even though the module is challenging, it is also interesting when going through the lesson. The module gives clear ideas on how one can adopt and teach with it when dealing with students.

GuestI think teaching speaking is the most challenging to teach as it requires lots of communication and attention, especially for the students. I enjoyed learning about the different ways of teaching and the different things we focus on e.g. fluency and accuracy.

GuestI thought the module was rather badly designed and some of the scenarios could have been answered by more than one of the suggestions. It was also badly spaced so that it was necessary to scroll up and down a lot. Why weren’t the letters that could be dragged and dropped not set next to the material they related to?

GuestIt was interesting to see the two different approaches of speaking skills lessons. I liked the emphasis on not interrupting and beginning to think about how to most effectively give feedback and corrections in class.

ParticipantI found fascinating to learn in detail about different approaches while teaching speaking. I tend to use guided discovery more often whereas this module encouraged me to focus on designing task-based lessons as well.

GuestThis module was rather challenging for me.
I discovered new things about leading a Speaking lesson:
– the two ways of teaching speaking, by coursebook and task-based approach
– the teacher’s role during the speaking lesson
– what is the meaningful speaking activity for students
– ideas for speaking tasks
– ideas for correcting speaking activities
– tips for successful speaking lesson
And many more!
