Jessica FanKeymasterHave a quick think about the reflective questions below in order to get the most out of the workshop:
1. How do you use technology to practise listening and speaking skills?
2. What are your top tips for practising listening and speaking synchronously and asynchronously?
3. What effect has the pandemic had on your students’ speaking skills? - 28th September 2021 at 10:31 am #344782

ParticipantHello Joe,
Looking forward to the session. Here are my pre-reflections:
1. I’m embarrassed to admit that I haven’t made it beyond using my phone/laptop etc to play audio/video files for Ss to listen and react to. Usually these are authentic texts, and occasionally they are actually produced by me.
2. Based on (1) above, I suppose I don’t have much to offer here! I’m fortunate in working with adult learners from a range of cultural backgrounds who are generally very motivated and very engaged and interested in each other and me. As a result, I get away with generating excuses for them to interact with each other and me — almost invariably synchronously. I enjoy making use of our natural inclination towards narrative to carry out live listening activities which incorporate input from students to produce a kind of collaborative text.
3. I’m not sure, as the organisation I work for decided not to shift online during the pandemic, and the Ss I work with only tend to attend classes for between a week and a 6 months.
Thanks,
Warren
