I’ve been meaning to post this for a while but kept putting it off, partly because I felt a bit silly asking, but mostly because I was hoping the problem would just go away on its own like an idiot. It hasn’t, obviously. My 2016 Q5 has done around 105,000 kilometres and I’ve noticed over the last couple of months that the gear changes have become less smooth than they used to be, particularly when the car is cold. It’s not violent or anything, just a bit jerky off the line and occasionally a slight thump when it shifts down as I slow for a junction. I’ve also noticed the revs hunting a little when I’m cruising at a steady speed, which I’m told could be a sign that the gearbox is struggling to decide which gear it wants. No warning lights, no limp mode, nothing dramatic, but I know from reading threads on here that these are exactly the sort of early symptoms that people ignore until it’s too late and they’re facing a four figure bill. What I want to do is get ahead of it rather than wait for a disaster. I’m not necessarily looking for a repair, at least not yet, what I want is someone who can do proper expert Audi transmission maintenance in Musaffah Shabiya, by which I mean actually inspecting the fluid, checking the adaptations, looking for the early warning signs that a general garage would miss, and giving me an honest assessment of whether I’m looking at a maintenance issue or something more serious down the road. I’d rather pay for a thorough check now than gamble and end up paying for a rebuild later. I’ve asked around a bit and heard mixed things about various places in the area, some people swear by one workshop and others say they had a bad experience there, so I’d really value hearing from anyone who has actually used a specialist nearby for this kind of preventative work. Did they explain what they were checking and why, or did they just take your money and hand back the keys? Did they recommend anything you hadn’t thought of? And on the practical side, how long does something like this usually take, because I’ll need to plan around being without the car. Any genuine recommendations would be hugely appreciated, and if anyone thinks I’m overthinking this and should just leave it alone until something breaks, I’d be happy to hear that too, as long as you explain why.
