What you will learn
Classrooms are full of instructions. Some are quite simple and easy to understand, such as when you ask students to open their books to a particular page. Other instructions can be quite complex, for instance, when we prepare our students for a role play or a game.
Even dividing our students up into groups can end in failure if our students have misunderstood our instructions. When our instructions fail, we usually blame our students, not realizing that the problem may lie in the instructions themselves.
By the end of this workshop, you’ll walk away with a basic formula for effective instructions, ideas on how to support your instructions and suggestions on what you can do to check that your students know what you want them to do.
Presented by Khanh-Duc Kuttig – TESOL 2021 Teacher of the Year & Lecturer @University of Siegen, Germany.
